the day after the night before

airspace's 6th birthday party was a really nice evening, harking back in feel to the parties we used to hold at our old factory site. Loads of things going on - Marie Lees' contemporary face painting, Dan Hopkins' experimental tunes, dada readings, heady cocktails, art patches and loads of art-related fancy dress.

All in all a fitting evening of retrospection and future-looking. The future looks bright and promising.

The day after was spent relaxing and enjoying its aftermath in our burgeoning wildlife paradise - the back yard - a sunny day, some sparkling rose pinot noir, watching the birds - goldcrests, magpies, falcons! dunnocks, and blackbirds.

We planted our birthday daffodils - a present from the lovely emily charlton - thanks emily.

And a big thanks to everyone who engaged with us over the last 4 weeks, sent us artworks, responded to our questions, made posters etc etc - now for the clean up, the round up and the evaluation.

Airspace studio artists postcards for the stocktake

AirSpace's 12 studio artists have been hard at work during the Stocktake, producing a brand new set of 25 unique postcards. Each card is representative of the artist's practice and beautifully printed on 350gsm card. Cards are provisionally set to be sold for 75p or 2 for £1, with all proceeds going into this year's studio activities fund and the cards will be available from Friday 23rd March.

Here's a sneak preview - individual images will be on the AirSpace Website from March 23rd. If you want to get your hands on some, drop us an email, or use the shop on the website.

For when it all gets a little too much...

AirSpace friend and contributor Alex Pearl has sent in enough of his Artists' Suicide Pills to make sure that in the event that there's no point left, we have the option to just end it all. Thanks Alex.

Airbridge Event

The event "Airbridge" whose aims were to canvas opinions on the relationship between a Contemporary Art Gallery and the various community/cultural groupings within the city was held today. Adopting a dialogical approach this initial forum, although small in number, raised some interesting points and ideas on how a gallery such as Airspace could broaden its overall appeal.
The information will be transcribed and fed into the ongoing evaluative process at Airspace but equally as important, is that it is seen as the basis for further discussion to open up new understandings and partnerships with the groupings mentioned.
A representation from the following attended:Hanley Museum and Art Gallery, The Mitchell Memorial Theatre, The Pensioners Convention / Lay person, Trinity Arts, local artist, Under Graduate, Art Waves Gallery.
Attended from Airspace: Joyce Iwaszko, kate Lynch, Andrew Branscombe, Brian Holdcroft.

Stocktake visitors

The Stocktake process has been a hit with all sorts of gallery visitors. I think these are more interested in the seeds than the art though.
